Analysis of the environmental status of Barbados & its effect on the tourism industry.

With the demand for prime real estate (perferably on the west & south coasts) and the lack of proper land & environmental policies, Barbados will slowly but surely become overdeveloped, overpopulated, and over-concreted. The only way to STOP this trend is to address these issues promptly. Tourism is all about discovering a new destination and experiencing what makes it unique, its culture and natural beauty. Tourist want to want to come to our beautiful island and have the experience of a lifetime, they want to be able to take in all the natural beauties that TRUE paradise has to offer. Unfortuantely, with the development of lands (most often agricultural) and very little land space, small island states like Barbados would NOT be able to sustain a successful tourism sector. With the increase of environmental degradation, Bajan culture is fading away. In order to inhibit this the environment would have to be the number one concern of all Bajans. The Barbados government will HAVE to enact & enforce MORE ENVIRONMENTAL laws (such as air pollution, noise pollution, dumping of waste, deforestation etc.), create MORE GREEN SPACES, and MORE views to the sea on both the west & south coasts. If Barbados really wants to keep the tourism industry as the primary industry then the ENVIRONMENT needs to be cared for a whole lot more by Bajans. Although Prime Minister David Thompson made almost the entire eastern coast of the island a national park free from development, more STRICT action as such NEEDS to be taken. With the government and people of Barbados in collaboration working peacefully together, Barbados can transform back into the PARADISE it once was.
